FuturISE Panel at ENAS & NANAS Conference
The FuturISE project group was represented with a joint panel at the ENAS and NANAS Conference on “Ageing, Old Age, and Intergenerational Relationships through Narrative and Practice: Challenging Ageism” from April 9 to 11, 2025 in Lleida (Spain).
Under the title “Intergenerational Solidarity in Societal Crises beyond the Pandemic – Empirical exploration and ethical evaluation of media debates in UK, Sweden, and Germany”, results from the first empirical project phase were presented and discussed with the international expert audience in a panel comprising four presentations. Niklas Ellerich-Groppe introduced the panel conceptually with his presentation “Intergenerational Solidarity as a Paradoxical Moral Resource in Societal Crises – Developing a Perspective”. Chris Gilliard, in cooperation with Patricia Donovan and Paul Higgs, then gave a presentation on “COVID, the NHS, solidarity and generational tensions as evinced in the UK media”. Nico Mira presented findings on “Age and Generational Paradigms in Swedish Media Discourse During the Pandemic – Observations and Lessons for Future Crises” for the team from Sweden. Finally, Eva Katharina Boser gave a presentation on “Social Security over the Life Course – Balancing Gendered Intergenerational Relations Beyond the Pandemic”, which was based on the results of the analysis of the German media discourse. A productive discussion on the topics then evolved, particularly in the synthesis of the contributions, which impressively underlined the relevance of the research project with its country-comparative perspective.
